Well, the great news is that everyone with a device and wifi can now have access to a world of content. Quite literally. Using ChatGPT you can now gain access to zillions of articles, copy, research, studies and papers from across the globe.
So will this boost your content marketing into the stratosphere? Will your SEO go through the roof? Will I get more enquiries because I have created more content faster and easier using ChatGPT?
Let’s see.
When I Google ChatGPT this is the blub that comes up.
ChatGPT is an AI-powered language model developed by OpenAI, capable of generating human-like text based on context and past conversations.
Apart from the most alarming concept that AI is learning and evolving as we speak (all on its own, eek! But that’s a story for another day). In terms of content, the phrase, you’ll get ‘human-like text’ concerns me.
Will it connect and resonate with your audience?
We buy using our emotions; fear, anger, joy, excitement, ego. You name it there’s an emotion driving every purchase.
You’re gonna have to be precise in what you put into the search section.
Now, the last part of the blurb, ‘based on context and past conversations’.
This is even more worrying, not just for a copywriter who may become obsolete but especially for you (the client) and the issues around plagiarism, inaccuracy and the spread of misinformation.
If ChatGPT is gathering insights, data and ideas from content that has previously been published, who is checking its accuracy? Is it going to be like Wikipedia, where the information is fact-checked and sourced randomly and inconsistently? Or worse, not checked at all?
The good news is that as a copywriter I’m not concerned about becoming obsolete because someone (me and those like me) needs to continue creating original content so that ChatGPT can use it in the future.
Without original thought and expression, ChatGPT and those platforms like it will be the ones to become redundant.
On the flipside using ChatGPT for generating ideas and starting projects could be a great idea for all budding writers and business people looking to save a few quid because it’s good for source material and research.
But, buyer beware!
Please check your research, understand the legitimacy of your source material and cite all your work, crediting the original content used, otherwise, it could go horribly wrong.
